7 exercises to learn to read
1.- Cards with syllables
The first exercise that we present to you is very simple. It consists of creating cards with different syllables. Using these cards, you should suggest that your child form words from the chosen syllables.
To add some fun, you can put the papers in a bucket and let him choose one from the pile.
Once you’ve made your choice, it’s your time to intensely pronounce the winning syllable. Next, you will have to pause so that the child can surprise you with his imagination.
2.- Alphabet soup
Word searches are very useful when children are learning to read. You can take the opportunity to ask him to find vowels or consonants among the sea of options offered by the alphabet soup.
You can also use the colored pencils to color the letters and enrich the experience. The fact that you enjoy it will help you learn more easily and consider this activity as a game, which will positively influence your learning.
3.- Build words
This third practice will demand the maximum from your little one. You must write all the letters of the alphabet on small pieces of paper and cut them to the same size.
Next, you must put all the cuttings on the table so that they are within reach of the little one. You can start by asking your child what letters you choose.
Once the little one has a more advanced level, you can invite him to be the one to choose the letters and build whole words. It is one of the most practical exercises to learn to read.
4.- Posters with words
This practice is usually one of the most effective for your little one to learn to read. In this case, you must prepare posters and enter words, either by hand or by computer, although it is recommended that the letter be round and large. You can do it with groups of words to make it easier for him.
The game is that each week you will introduce new words on these posters. To do this, you must stand right in front of him and show him the posters, one after the other and quickly, while pronouncing the nouns that appear on the pictures.
In this way, the child will identify the words that he has been learning with you week after week. Later, you can also add images to this game.
5.- Use images
Pictures are a good resource for the child to learn new words. In this case, we present you a game in which your child can learn vowels.
The first thing you should do is create 5 paper baskets that will represent each of the 5 vowels. Next, print different images of animals whose names begin with a vowel.
Take advantage of the printed images to ask him the name of the animal that appears in the snapshot and then in which group of vowels he should include it.
6.- Paste the words at home
This activity consists of labeling objects and parts of the house with posters. You must place these posters in their respective places, always at the level of your child’s eyes, so that every time he passes by that place in the house or that object he sees the word well written.
Later you can remove those posters and have him put them back on his own.
If you want to add a little more difficulty, you can try to trick the child into placing the sign in an inappropriate place. If you see that it requires a lot of difficulty, you can add images to accompany the words.

7.- Shared reading
Finally, we recommend reading with your child, since it is one of the most useful and obvious ways for the child to learn.
